UCICKI IM Sports Takes Flight on 1/21 as New ARC Policies Kick In

January 4, 2018 Authored by: Arthur Tham
Irvine, CA - UCI Circle K is slated to start Winter 2018 Intramural play on 1/21.

Its Mens basketball, CoRec volleyball, and CoRec soccer teams kick off the regular season in Week 3. Over 80 club members signed up for an intramural sport this quarter, an unprecedented number.

CoRec Volleyball continues to set up its dominance through the leadership of captains Ami Patel and Kimberly Ngo. Setters of Catan, Boneless Rotation, and Sugar and Spike play Tuesdays at 9:30pm and 10:30pm.

Mens Basketball takes on the challenge of the all-time greats of UCI basketball through the leadership of captain Jerald Marquez and his assistants Arthur Tham and Raenna Caguioa. Circle K Rawr xD faces off against other clubs and organizations on Mondays at 8:30pm.

CoRec Soccer is a new addition to the UCICKI sports lineup, but captain Noah Shen is not afraid to take on the challenge. Noah's ARC plays Sundays at 8:30pm.

The official schedule for the season releases on 1/19, and all game times will be available on the UCI Circle K calendar.

UCICKI members that want to watch a basketball and/or volleyball game must have their hand scanned by the Anteater Recreation Center, as a student ID is no longer allowed as a form of entry. Visiting club members that want to watch these games have to be sponsored by a UCI student and purchase a $5 day pass. Fans do not need to present a student ID to watch Soccer games.

Those that filled out the Interest Form to play a sport for UCICKI should have received an email from their captains. If they did not receive an email, they should contact their captains or send Arthur a message.

Irvine, CA - Change Thru Games has announced the inaugural "Level Up Tournaments" to kick off its festivities.

The Level Up Tournaments is a series of tournaments hosted by the Change Thru Games committee. They will be held throughout the month of January starting from preliminary rounds to the championship round at Change Thru Games, which will be held on January 26th-27th.

"There will be prizes as well as the ultimate prize of bragging rights," states Programs chairs Kevin Carizon and Pauline Ma. "So please enter!

For a small fee, prospective participants can join four tournaments that will take place this January: League of Legends, Overwatch, Mario Kart 8 (Wii U), and Super Smash Brothers for Wii U

"The fee contributes to the funds being raised for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention," says Director Arthur Tham. "Tournament players can contribute to a great cause early before our 24-hour event."

Participants can use this link to sign up for the tournaments. Sign-ups end on December 29th at 11:59 pm.

Started in 2014 by Brandon Khuu and Bryce Tham, with help from Baldwin Chang, the first iteration of Change Thru Games was filmed in a small apartment with a webcam pointed at a TV. Since then, it has evolved into a production that has been able to help bring change through the joy and love of video games. In 2016, Kyler Tagupa and his committee took the event to the next level with Change Thru Games: The Third and truly showed how CTG is a great event created for the members by the members. In January 2018, Arthur Tham and the Change Thru Games: Level 4 committee hope to take Change Thru Games to new heights with innovative events and a revamped stream show.

Administrative Changes, November 2017

November 9, 2017 Authored by: Kyler Tagupa
Hello UC Irvine Circle K!

In light of recent events, we have had a change in our club administration. Due to personal issues and as a personal choice, Jigzen Carrasco has stepped down as our Vice President of Administration. We as a board and as a club wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors. After discussing the next steps with the rest of Executive Board, we have come to a decision to not find a new Vice President of Administration. For Coin Family, we looked at the options in terms of finding a new big, and are happy to introduce you all to Noah Shen, who will be serving as Family Head for the Coin Family for the remainder of the year!

As leaders, sometimes the best service we can do is a service to ourselves. If you need help, Circle K offers nothing but support for you. While it is important to serve our community and excel in our studies, realize that mental, physical, and emotional health are important to function at your 100% best. Here in CKI, you'll always have a friend. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, I as well as the rest of your bigs are here to assist in any way possible.

With Love, Service, and Leadership,
Kyler Tagupa
