I would like to thank all the players and supporters who came out to take part in the journey to Circle K's first Intramural Championship. This includes all the teams that participated from CKI, Game of Throws- led by Anthony Guzman, Ultimate Jerald-led by Kevin Carizon and Oh Boi- led by Arthur Tham. This 5-on-5 Ultimate Frisbee tournament was the first of its kind, hosted by UCI's recreation center. There were 6 teams in total and two divisions, the top two teams in each division would advance to playoffs. Game of Throws and Ultimate Jerald amazingly both made playoffs after a hard fought round robin. It was the first time in history that two teams in CKI qualified for playoffs. The following weekend, in a day that will be remembered, October 29th at 5pm, Game of Throws would face off against Ultimate Jerald in the semi-finals. It was a cold, windy and gloomy day, not the most ideal conditions for a game of Ultimate Frisbee. The semifinal game was competitive early one, but as the game got deeper, Game of Throws took over, going on to win 8-2, sending CKI to its 2nd ever Intramural Championship appearance. Meanwhile, on the other side of the bracket, Ideal Grass faced off against IDK. Ideal Grass has risen to be a well known intramural team, as they have participated in Softball and Flag football, although their identity on campus remains unknown, the popular belief is that they are a group of athletic and competitive friends. For the playoff rounds they added a few Club ultimate frisbee players, which would make them a huge threat to anyone they faced. IDK is a team of UCI Club Tennis Players, whose advantage comes with their size and stamina. This game did not last very long, as Ideal Grass' experience would overwhelm IDK, as they fell by a score of 8-2. The finals would be played between Ideal Grass and Game of Throws, a rematch of the two team after facing each other in the round robin. The game in the round robin was close, but CKI came out on top 6-4. This match would be different, with a lot more at stake and new additions to Ideal Grass' roster, they were prepared to give CKI's Game of Throws all they could handle. CKI knew what they were up against, and relied on the leadership of Wilson Tran, the only Ultimate Player with experience on Game of Throws, to find a way to win. The sun had began to set, the ARC Field lights came on and the Championship began. Wilson Tran commanded the team's throws, completing deep passes to Noah Shen and Tom Yu in the start of the championship to stun Ideal Grass by taking the early lead 2-0. Suddenly, CKI realized they could match up with their talented opponents. Ideal Grass would not go away easily as they stormed back to take the lead 3-2 right before halftime, Tom made one last heave at the end zone as time expired in the first half but his throw was caught just short of the goal line. Ideal Grass received to start the 2nd half. CKI greatly improved its defense and were able to get important stops on defense that led to points in their favor. Tom and Anthony caught passes to reclaim the lead for CKI 4-3, then Alex Landavazo caught another to go up by two. Ideal Grass answered with a goal to make it 5-4, but it would be their last. CKI took control of the game and closed it out with a 7-4 victory, clinching their first ever intramural championship and overcoming Ideal Grass' stacked team. To be able to do this wth a majority of the softball team made it much more meaningful, as we fell one game short of winning the championship in co-rec softball in spring quarter. Coming back and winning it in a different sport was very special and will live on in our memories. Huge thanks to this team for working hard and persisting until we achieved the Intramural Dream, and making history for UCI Circle K.

Statement Regarding Online Membership Application

October 11, 2017 Authored by: Andrew Yu
Hello! This is your technology chair, Andrew. Unfortunately, I have bad news to bring.

While the Online Membership Application has been doing a great job in reducing the amount of paper applications, it did have a problem that I have failed to noticed until recently. If you clicked the check button to ignore family preferences and/or you made comments specifying how you want to be put in a family, then that information did not get recorded and was therefore lost.

I deeply apologize that I was not able to notice this problem during the numerous online applications we have already received. While I was able to fix the problem of the data transferring, I was not able to recover the lost information.

IMPORTANT: If you filled out an online membership application before October 11th, 2:00 A.M. and you are certain that you checked the button to ignore family preferences and/or made comments about how you want to be put in a family, then please fill out this Google Form right here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScG5PWUSKHjAHHowxqfAn0q-FEmPdGwRKABR6V785yL4KYzVA/viewform

Once again, I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have brought for some of you, but I want to ensure that you, the member, are put in a family best suited for you based off your preferences.

If you have any other questions about the online membership application,  please let me, any Board Member or any Family Head know. If you wish to send me a message about this issue, please contact me through my email rather than messaging me on Facebook.
