Snocial 2017 was both an exhilarating and an unique experience, thanks mostly to the crazy weather. While we were only in Big Bear for less than 24 hours, numerous members had many memorable moments during the drive to the location and during their time there.
Here, members pose for a photo in the Wal-Mart parking lot while the drivers test out putting on their snow chains before the long drive up the mountain. It’s early and we’re all a bit tired, but seeing familiar faces is just what we need to get us up and ready :D
Waking up early in the morning at around 5:30 am, members started to get into their cars to go to Snocial. Some of the cars stopped at Wal-Mart along the way as a checkpoint. While there, drivers check their snowchains to make sure they fit and ready to go. Some of us stopped by Jack in the Box to grab a quick bite before the journey.
snow? Snow?? SNOW!!! - Perks of arriving just after a blizzard; taking aesthetic pictures with #FreshSnow
The views during the drive to Big Bear were quite breathtaking, especially since it was the first time for some members to see actual snow. No one really knew how to put on snow chains at first though. Despite all the difficulties, everyone eventually learned how to properly put on snow chains. While some cars did get stuck along the way, we all made it to the cabin safely. One car even had to get 10 of us to push it out the snow and onto the road, but at the end of the day there was no doubt we all had grown closer together because of it.
Aside from shoveling snow to create paths towards the other cabins, playing in it was much more fun! We threw snowballs at each other and had a grand ol’ time. When not being in the snow, members chilled out in the main cabin or played in the game room, which had a pool table, a foosball table, and even ping pong! While most of us were playing around there, others cooked dinner.
Working together to cook up a DELICIOUS dinner. Too many cooks in the kitchen? At #Snocial2017 more cooks = more yummy garlic bread
For dinner, we ate delicious spaghetti in tomato sauce with sides of roasted sweet potatoes, cauliflower, and garlic bread. The garlic bread was super good by the way! For refreshments, we had lemonade and for dessert, yummy cookies and brownies were baked in the oven.
Then as dinner came to an end, white elephant began! So many people brought gifts for white elephant that Sabrina and Roy had to split the members into two groups. At first, people opted to pick a gift from the pile. It wasn’t till about halfway through, however, that people started to steal each other’s gifts, eventually making the popular gifts locked and unstealable. Deals were made in front of everyone near the end of the game where three members attempted to steal gifts for each other to get what they wanted. The gifts ranged from high valued gifts such as a DIY photo frame and an indoor grill to highly questionable gifts such as hot potato and ouija board.
Kevin: “I’m telling you guys, it doesn’t matter which card I have, I’m gonna betray our friendship in the end.”
By the end of the night, people were either watching Black Mirror, playing charades, playing board games, or having deep talks in the jacuzzi. Most people knocked out late at night, but we all had to wake up at 5:30 or 6:30 to get out of Big Bear before the next big blizzard hit.
For breakfast, a hearty meal of turkey bacon, scrambled eggs, and french toast with maple syrup filled our stomachs. For the vegans, more roasted sweet potatoes were available.
It was the first Circle K Snocial where it actually snowed during the event, which meant it was a perfect time to hold a photoshoot! After breakfast, members captured their best moments in the snow, creating pictures worthy to post on Instagram without any filters.
At last, it was time to leave Big Bear. Everyone was able to drive back to Irvine safely with some of the members deciding to eat pho for lunch, others getting sushi, while others still decided to immediately get some rest at home. Despite all the unforeseen events and weather, Snocial 2017 was an experience we doubt anyone will forget.
